Lifting and Extracting

A simple cut in the timeline means to simply cut out a portion of the clip. When you cut, the other clips in the timeline stay in the same place.
A ripple edit is when you cut out a portion of a clip the same as a simple cut. You do this by right clicking on the selected clip to cut and select ripple delete. When you ripple delete, the other clips to the right of the deleted clip shift over. Lifting and extracting are two ways to cut the video in the program panel at one time. To do this, you set in and out points to decide the area of the clip you want to extract or lift. Lifting is like a simple cut, while extracting is like ripple deleting, in terms of what happens to the other clips in the timeline.
This is an example of an extraction edit, or a ripple delete. I decided to edit the two clips where I did because it shows the firts rider jumping tthen it cuts to the other rider watching for a second or two.

Titles-template

This is an example of a template title, which means that you use a template that is created in the program and you set is in the lower 1/3's. You might use this kind of title when you want to use a creative title that you can't create on your own. It's to fit the personal preferences of the editors.

Titles-overlay

This is an example of an overlay title, which means the title is overlaying on the video itself. This is set in the lower 1/3's. You might use this kind of title when you want to label the subject's name, location, etc.

Titles-full screen

This is an example of a full screen title, which means the title is full screen using a solid background not a video. You might use this kind of title when you use it for an introduction or end credits.

Insert Workshop

This is an example of an insert edit. An insert edit places a clip and moves the clips that follow to the right, so you don’t record over clips in the timeline. To do this, you drag the clip from source panel to the timeline and then hold the CTRL key and place the clip in the desired location. I decided to insert the 2nd clip where I did because it went from the first rider then to his/her friend after talking, then back to the first rider about to jump the second hurdle
The difference between an overlay and an insert edit is that an overlay places a clip and records over it while an insert splits the original clip in two. You would use an overlay when you want show that time is continuous, while you’d use an insert edit when you're breaking the time. In this case the overlay edit works better because it shows that the horse is about to jump the next hurdle while the rider's friend talks to them and the camera shifts to their face.

Overlay workshop

This is an example of an overlay edit. An overlay edit places a clip on top of an existing clip. To do this, you can just drag the clip from the source panel to the timeline and then place it on top of other clips. I decided to place the 2nd clip where I did because when the first horseback rider jumps the first hurdle while the rider's friend starts talking and the clip shows his/her friend and back to them jumping the second hurdle.

I'm happy that the idea of our video came out nicely. The fact we used multiple clips to blend and create our message was well done. But of course the in and out points were slightly off, yet were able to get the idea out. I think i'm getting better at making clean in and out points. If i could do this project over again, i would take time and fix and clean my transitions for the in and out points. Maybe even to add more videos to properly address the idea.

One way i helped my partner was showing him where to place our videos. He did the same and helped advise me on arranging the videos so it would make sense. One challenge we faced was that we weren't able to view all the videos in order to get the best selection to use in our final product.We overcame this by using what we were given at the time.
